INTERNET: Ralph Waldo Emerson once wrote, “The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.”
Muhammad Ali said, “Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth.”
Today, for the next three and half hours, the Christian music broadcasting station, K-Love, is doing their yearly fundraiser to help the station stay on air. (Here is where you can donate – klove.com or (800) 525-LOVE (5683))
Owned by the Educational Media Foundation, K-Love was first launched as a radio station with different call letters in the early 1980s. Later on, it became an online-only station.
A lot of you are probably, like “So?” What radio station or TV station or school group or whatever doesn’t do fundraisers to be able to ‘stay alive?’ That is what you are thinking right now, right?
I get it.
So, why am I using space here to write about it?
K-Love was used as a ‘vehicle’ by God to save my life once, and since then, it is where I get my affirmations, my lessons and messages from God that help me walk the journey I have been given in my life. They have helped me through three bouts with serious health issues – cancer, thyroid disorder, anxiety, grief, unemployment and so much more.
When I get up in the morning or am working from home, all I have to say is “Alexa, play K-Love,” and it comes on pretty soon. The music ranges from a variety of artists and a variety of styles. Some of the lyrics ring out louder than the rest of them in my heart and help push out stinkin’ thinkin’. Then, there are the minutes of encouragement, the verses of the day and the testimonies the Djs share or callers share.
Being an introverted extrovert, I am by myself a lot, and that is OK. Having the music playing or listening to Scott and Kelli, Jeff & Randi, Skip & Amy, or any of the other Djs banter back and forth or share words that have been on their hearts is like I am in a room full of friends.
And I am not the only to think so.
The stories on how the station and the music has helped people are tremendous.
So, the fundraiser – the fund drive – is our way to tell them thank you.
We live in such a crazy world today -a chaotic world. There is so much division, so much falsehoods being told, tension and a lot of darkness. K-Love offers us light.
I need that. Y’all, come on. I know you need that too.
Please, there are three – well, almost four hours left – It is 7:11 p.m. EST on February 12.
Will you help them?

It takes a village.
Come on, y’all! Let’s do this.
