John 3:27 – John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven. (KJV)
Even Mother Teresa, in India, had heard of Michael Jordan, I am sure. Santa Claus had at the North Pole, and the space aliens did, because they came to get Michael in Space Jam. Sports stations, magazines, and more have really done a lot for Michael Jordan’s career — or, we should say, Michael Jordan’s many careers. He has come out of retirement almost as many times as I have changed e-mail addresses, or at least as many times as I have changed my hair colour.
Don’t get me wrong: I think Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Shaq, Magic Johnson, and Larry Bird should get attention from ESPN and the media outlets of the world. In the sport of basketball, these men make it happen on the court. Michael goes in for a dunk, Kobe takes a shot, Shaq blocks it high and low, Larry and Magic would shoot from anywhere and make it during their days.
Without God though, not a one of them could make it happen. He makes it all happen — from the sunshine to the rain, to the NCAA basketball March Madness, to the NBA finals, to my actually being able to focus the microscope in botany class by myself, to you doing whatever it is you are doing right now — reading this devotion.
God is the God of all things — all seasons, even football, basketball, hockey, volleyball, baseball, soccer, tennis. Without Him, Mike would never have been Air Jordan, much less Baby Jordan.
Jesus reminded us in the Sermon on the Mount that our Father knows when a sparrow falls to the ground. How much more does He care about our needs! He makes it all happen.
Prayer: Dear Father, it is You to whom all glory and praise should come. This is a prayer of praise and thanksgiving to You for making it all happen! Amen.
